TIPS ON MENTALLY PREPARING FOR A NEW SEASON

New sports seasons is right around the corner, the next few weeks are so important in preparing for the upcoming season. Athletes have been working hard in the weight room throughout the summer to become faster and stronger, athletes should also take this time to really focus in and prepare mentally.

In this article, we discuss how every athlete can start mentally preparing for the upcoming season.

Focus on technique
During the summer, for example athletes do much football speed and agility training to prepare themselves physically for their upcoming season. As we inch closer to the start of sports, now is the time to really start focusing on your technique. Start imagining yourself playing, and think about what you need to do in certain situations. Visualize the outcome. This will help you determine what you need to improve during these last couple of weeks in the offseason.

Set Goals
Another thing to do, if you haven’t already, is set goals for yourself. When we say this, we mean individual goals (for example: have x amount of pancake blocks per game or x amount of season rushing yard), as well as begin thinking about team oriented goals as well. One of the best ways to stay true to these goals is by writing them down, and placing them in a spot where you see them daily. By setting goals, you will be able to create a better focus and desire for the upcoming season.

Watch film
Even though we are still a few weeks away from new season starting, now is a great time to start watching film of last year’s games. Watching film allows you to actually watch what you are doing good and what you need to improve on. While watching film, it’s a good idea to take notes so you can remember all the things in which you want to work on, as well as note the things you do well!

Stay motivated
Many athletes start becoming more motivated the few weeks prior to the season starting. It’s vital that you stay mentally motivated and focused from now until your last game of the year. Athletes become successful when they take their offseason focus and motivation with them into the first few weeks of practice!

New season will be here before you know it. As all athletes should continue to do for example football speed and agility training during this time, they should also really focus on becoming mentally prepared. “Preparation is everything and focus is the key. It’s easy to say you gave it your all out on the pitch. But the point is if you’d prepared you’d have had more to give and you’ve played better”. - Eric Cantona

We hope this article will help you to start new season in the best possilble way! Good luck!
